Meet the staff . . .

The Owners:

Solitaire Guest Farm is owned by Walter and Simone Swarts and Pasquale Scaturro.  Walter and Simone are pictured here with their twin boys Rickie and Dylan

Walter's braai's have become legend, and can often be found at the bar entertaining guests with a glass of Jack Daniels in his hand. He is a huge Formula One fan and his favourite driver is Fernando Alonso.

Simone is mother to not only her boys but also to all the animal residents and has an almost Doctor Doolittle like relationship with them. She also has to keep the mischievous Walter in check!

Pasquale is a renowned explorer, adventurer and geophysicist. He has explored the far reaches of the planet for over 25 years and has led mountaineering expeditions on Aconcagua, K2, Pumori, Ama Dablam, Gasherbrum II, the North Face of the Eiger, and three expeditions on Mt. Everest.

He conceived, organized, and led the National Federation of the Blind 2001 Everest Expedition, in which blind climber Erik Weihenmayer reached the summit. An award-winning documentary, ‘Farther than the Eye Can See’, captured the expedition and Time Magazine called it one of the most successful Mt. Everest expeditions in history.

The Biologist . . .

Matt Cleverley and Kate Echement our wildlife biologists from the N/a’an ku se Foundation stationed at Solitaire Guest Farm to run the Namib Carnivore Conservation Centre.

Matt and Kate moved to Namibia in 2008 and worked together in cheetah conservation for two and a half years gaining experience with cheetah husbandry and release projects. Matt and Kate started working for Na’an ku se in April 2011 and moved to the Guest Farm in June the same year.

Matt is from the UK and Kate from the States but both now love their African life. However, they are still passionate about their home countries' sport, especially Football and Ice Hockey. Matt is a die hard Liverpool supporter and Kate a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Supporters of rival teams be warned, you may find yourself locked in the Cheetah camp!

Your Hosts . . .

Merlyn and Frankie Fredericks will be on hand to make sure your dining experience is as enjoyable as possible . Merlyn and Frankie are always willing to chat and answer any questions about Solitaire, the local attractions, Namibian music and all things relating to the High School Musical Movies!

The Rest Of The Team . . .

Behind the scenes we have a great team who cook up the delicious food, clean the rooms and feed the animals. Guests will get the chance to thank them in the evening after dinner when they entertain by singing traditional Namibian songs.
